The long drawn saga of who’s going to buy Nokia’s HERE Maps could be close to a conclusion. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Finnish company is close to wrapping up a deal with a trio of German automakers including Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
The publication cites sources with close knowledge of the deal saying that it could be concluded “within a few days.” While Uber was once said to be interested in striking a deal with Nokia, but reportedly bowed out of the race.
The car makers are said to be buying HERE for slightly more than $2.71 billion, and will invite other automakers to buy a stake in the business. This would mean that most of the big car companies will be able to integrate Nokia’s HERE maps into their infotainment systems as an alternative to Google Maps or TomTom.

These aforementioned automakers could take the advantage of not having to build a mapping service from scratch. Most of the companies are also rumored to be working on self-driving cars, and could integrate Nokia’s mapping technologies.
